WEEK ONE - TUESDAY
The elevator doors opened with an authoritative ping, '14th floor', femininely ricocheting off the mirrored elevator walls into the dismal gray corridor beyond. Out stepped Tom, Tom Krelc: 5’ 11”, 160 lbs, medium build, brown hair, penetrating blue eyes, and incredible reflexes developed through years of gruelling pro-tennis championships. Tom knew this was a lie. If an elevator goes from the 12th to the 14th floor, you’re really on the 13th floor. This meant that this and all the floors above Tom were off by one. He was being lied to. Worse than that, his office was actually on the 13th floor. Mulling this over he turned left realizing half-way down the corridor that his office was in fact behind him. No problem. He’d been in this situation before: the key was to look like you knew what you were doing. Tom’s face automatically assumed the look he kept for witnessing traffic accidents. Even the most minute observer of human nature would have concluded that he had obviously meant to come in this direction originally, but had suddenly realized that something significantly more important had to take precedence. With flawless execution he pirouetted decisively, pretty sure that whoever had seen him would have been impressed and possibly even a little bit intimidated by this dynamic about-face. He was, after all, the Executive Vice President of Human Resources. | ||
